In 1792, Daniel Spangler purchased a gristmill and moved to the area now known as Floyd, Virginia. Of German descent, the name Spangler (origionally Spengler) means craftsman - specificially, a tinsmith. Until the 1930's, the Spangler Mill remained in family hands providing a quality product for that rural community. The "craftsman" quality could be seen on ground corn, wheat and other products.

The story continues as the father and daughter team of Steve and Emily Spangler carry on the craftsman tradition of their name and heritage with "Spangler Mill at Cedar Hill" - a small business dedicated to continuing mountain ways with grace, beauty and skill. Combining the "Spangler Mill" from their family heritage and "Cedar Hill" as a name of their Asheville, NC area home, "Spangler Mill at Cedar Hill" builds, restores, refinishes and sells all types of mountain tables, chairs, chests, pie safes and baskets.
